Overview

Most of us take good dental health for granted until something goes wrong. The fact is: each day, millions of Americans face the problem of tooth loss. When left untreated, not only can it affect your chewing function and the capability to enjoy your favorite food, it can also cause deterioration of bone and surrounding teeth. Tooth loss can even impact health and well-being, self-confidence and professional endeavors.

What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are artificial roots (medical-grade Titanium) that are surgically placed into the jaw bone. After healing period, implants actually fuses to the living bone cells of the jaw, a process called Osseointegration. This union forms a strong and durable anchor for many different types of tooth replacements, including single teeth, bridges, partials and dentures. These implant restorations replace your missing teeth, and allow you to bite and chew comfortably as your nature teeth.

Why Dental Implant?
In the past, missing teeth were often replaced with bridges supported by existing teeth, or with partial or full dentures. Both these options are a compromise, as traditional bridges require healthy teeth to be cut down, while dentures are often uncomfortable and inconvenient, What’s even worse is that tooth loss is accompanied by jawbone loss. Without the stimulation provided by natural tooth roots, the jawbone is soon reabsorbed and will begin to shrink and change shape. This can affect a person’s facial appearance as without the proper support the cheeks and lips begin to collapse inwards. Denture wearers soon discover their dentures begin to slip and move around as the natural retention provided by the jawbone is diminished.

Dental implants are a popular and effective long-term solution for people who suffer from missing teeth, failing teeth or chronic dental problem and are quickly becoming the gold standard in tooth replacement. Benefits of implants include:

Implant prevent Bone Loss in the Jaw
Implants fuse to the living bone cells of the jaw and stimulate the jawbone, helping it maintain its density. This also prevents shrinkage of the jawbone and maintain the integrity of the facial structure, which keeps you looking younger.

Implants help to strengthen the remaining natural teeth
Restoring missing teeth with dental implants will prevent the adjacent teeth from moving out of position and tilting into the gap. Dental implants may further protect your natural teeth by spreading the forces created during biting and chewing.

Superior Strength and Stability
Implants feel and function like your natural teeth. You can eat the foods you love without fear or worry about denture/partial coming out. Mealtimes and socializing with others becomes a pleasure once more.
Dental implants are permanent, low maintenance solution
Implants last much longer than the all the traditional methods, and require no extra care besides the recommended brushing and flossing regimen.

Are You A Candidate For Implants?
You can use dental implants to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or a full upper and/or lower set of teeth. First, you need to have a thorough dental exam and have your medical and dental history reviewed. Our doctors will go over with you regarding all the options and generate the best treatment option that fits your needs.

Step-by-Step Dental Implants Procedures:

Step 1: Evaluation
The first part of the dental implant procedure involves a thorough oral evaluation. Patients must have adequate width and height of the jawbone, as implants must be anchored to a strong supporting structure. If insufficient bone is present, bone grafting and/ or sinus lift procedures may be needed to correct this problem.
Once it is determined that you are a candidate for dental implants, you will then be scheduled for the surgical placement of the implants (with any required bone grafting and/ or sinus lift procedures) by Dr. Liu who has the specialty training and extensive experience on implant, bone grafting and oral surgery.
Step2: Placement
Dental implants are strong titanium cylinders surgically placed in the jawbone as an anchor for replacement teeth or dentures. Over a period of a few months after the implant(s) has been placed, the cylinder(s) will fuse to the bone, mimicking a natural tooth root. A temporary crown/bridge can be attached to the top of the cylinder(s) while this fusion is taking place. Once the cylinder(s) has adequately fused to the bone, the implant(s) has now become a permanent part of your mouth, and it is ready for a permanent dental crown/bridge/denture.
Step 3: Restoration
A natural-looking crown/bridge/denture will then be delivered and permanently attached to the implant. The crown/bridge/denture provides you with the finishing touch to your dental implant and often enhances or restores your smile!
